We provide Canberrans living with a disability the support and skills to live an independent lifestyle.
Live life to the fullest and feel confident.
Are you looking for a job, but don’t know where to start? Do you want to move into your own home, but have no idea what’s involved? Do you want to depend less on others so you can lead your own life?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, we might be able to help. Self++ is a coaching and training service that helps you develop the skills you need to become independent.
We work primarily with people on the Autism Spectrum or who have a mild to moderate intellectual disability over the age of 15. Even if you don’t fit into this description, feel free to have a chat with us to see if we can help you out.
Self++ takes a holistic approach to helping you achieve your goals. We like to work in conjunction with other support workers and professionals you’re working with, instead of being siloed away.
This allows us to get to know your strengths and areas you need extra support in, so we can help you develop strategies with the best chance of success.
We are selective about the people we work with. We only work with people who we can actually help out, have the right attitude and are willing to put in the effort to achieve their goals.
What does a tech blog have to do with a disability service provider, you might ask? Back in December 2020, Self++ CEO Jonathan Laloz wrote an article for Zapier blog on the potential benefits of hiring neurodiverse team members.
Self++ CEO Jonathan Laloz wrote a blog article for Clickability back in October 2020 around how having autism isn't the end of the world, and with the right support that anyone can thrive.
We recently helped a participant move out of their student accommodation into somewhere more suitable for their transitioning lifestyle.
While there was a level of anxiety around the whole process, especially given Canberra’s low vacancy rates and a high level of competition, we were able to provide reassurance by explaining the process of finding a rental, allowing a sufficient timeframe and by having backup plan of remaining in student accommodation.
During our sessions, we went through the property search, inspection and application processes and were able to successfully find a share-house in a central location that met our participant’s needs.
Members of the Self++ team either identify as neurodiverse or have a close personal relationship with someone who is, and we embrace a culture of inclusion and self-improvement.
Our coaches and trainers have generally been through and achieved what they are helping others achieve.
